Welcome to the inaugural New World Marlborough Marathon which is set for Saturday the 4th of December 2010! It has been a long time in the planning and now we want to welcome you to our little piece of paradise for a truly memorable run or walk depending on your choice of distance.
The start/finish is in Seymour Square set virtually in the middle of Blenheim and surrounded by the beautifully manicured Seymour Square gardens. As a runner or walker you will have a choice of 21.1km (half), 10.5km (quarter) or 5.25km (eighth) and for the hard out weekend warriors and elite there is the full measured 42.2km marathon course for the runners. To check out the course maps click here.
If you are in business/work (Business House ) in a government department or want to run as a family (Family) then there is the option of running as a team of 4 runners/walkers for all male, all female and mixed gender categories and is only available in the 10km course.
We promise that for all distances there will be no more than 200 metres of running through suburbia as you head out onto the Taylor River access system. This access way has been purpose built by the Marlborough District Council as a link for walkers and runners to beautiful rural Marlborough. Within just a few kilometres of the start you will be able to appreciate the stunning countryside and vineyards of New Zealand's wine growing capital. We do pretty well in the sunshine stakes too, sharing the national sunshine hours title with our near neighbours Nelson so can almost promise it will be a stunner of a day.
Not only will you be running a glorious course in superb surroundings, you'll also be eligible for loads of high value giveaways and spot prizes. Your entry will make a difference to the local community as $5 per entry will go to go to local charities such as the Cancer Society plus a number of schools and clubs.
